With the beginning of the European season, it’s also time for Team Colombia to get things started. The Escarabajos will debut in France, at the 39th Tour Mediterraneen (February 6-10), under the guidance of Sports Directors Oscar Pellicioli and Oliverio Rincon.
The French stage race will give the Team a valuable opportunity to state the overall condition after 4 days of solid training in Arco – Garda Trentino. Sports Director Oscar Pellicioli shows confidence: “Ahead of the first race of the season, there’s always great expectations, but also a fair deal of uncertainty – we know where our guys are, not so much about the others. Nevertheless, we are confident that our riders made a good job, and the indications we got were reaffirmed during our good training days in Trentino. This race will be very important to make a point about the overall situation, yet our guys will be going for it with great commitment and motivation.”
While the team expects a good contribution from track specialist Juan Esteban Arango and Alexis Camacho, both debuting on the European stage, Tour Mediterraneen also features the classic uphill finish on Mont Faron – an early but significant test for both Fabio Duarte and Esteban Chaves. Leonardo Duque, in his first race in a Team Colombia jersey, will put his experience to good use in flatter stages, while Jarlinson Pantano, Carlos Julian Quintero and Juan Pablo Suarez will round out the line-up for the event.
