Like his teammate Arango, Avila moved to Team Colombia after establishing himself on the track, where he got the greatest victory of his career so far – the Points Race gold medal at the 2011 Track World Championship in Apeldoorn (Netherlands). El Kalimeno made a good impact in his first season at the Team, consistently showing himself in the sprints and showing incredible grit and resiliency to finish his first Giro d’Italia. Quite an achievement, for a rider who had a 8-day race as the longest stretch in his career that far.

In the second half of the season, Avila provided a very solid performance at the USA Pro Challenge, finishing in the top-10 in the sprint in three stages. His aim for 2014 is to continue his learning curve, that could lead him to achieve greater satisfaction pretty soon
But Edwin is much more than this: with his peculiar and funny personality, Avila has become a key piece of Team Colombia’s clubhouse, and becoming a popular presence in cycling all around the world.
