Edwin Avila lands at Team Colombia in 2013 along with Juan Esteban Arango – his partner on track in the Madison speciality, and one who shares his ambition to repeat on the road their success in the velodrome. 2011 Points Race World Champion in Apeldoorn in 2011, “Kalimeno” is now ready to put his great quality at the service of Claudio Corti’s outfit. “I see myself as a rouleur and sprinter – and of course a pistard – but I was a climber early on. And in the future… who knows. Wiggins came from the velodromes, after all.”

In 2013, Avila will devote himself to road activity almost completely, after showing his potential in last year’s Tour of Colombia with 3 top-5 placements. “I have wanted to be a road rider from the beginning, and now I have the opportunity to pursue my ambition in the best possible environment: I already knew many of my teammates, and I also had an excellent feeling with the staff.

In October, I have started taking Italian online lessons, and I think I will settle very well in Italy. As for the cycling part, I know I have plenty to learn, but I obviously wish to take some good results early on – be it on my own or helping my teammates.
