Plenty of options for Trofeo Laigueglia
After the starting the season at Tour Mediterraneen, and while taking part to the Vuelta a Algarve from tomorrow on, Team Colombia will get things started in Italy too on Saturday, February 16th, at Trofeo Laigueglia. The early-season Italian race didn’t undergo major route changes: the Passo Balestrino climb will once again be the first difficulty of the day, followed by three passages on the Testico ascent. In the finale, Pinamare and Capo Mele short climbs will give a chance to those who want to prevent a small group finish.
Sports Director Oscar Pellicioli will rely on an 8-man line-up, very similar to the one that showed up at the Tour Mediterraneen: only Alexis Camacho, who will undergo x-rays tomorrow to find out the cause of pains in his knee that forced him to quit the French race, and Juan Esteban Arango, training at the velodrome in Montichiari from February 17th, ahead of the upcoming Track World Championships in Minsk, will not start at the Italian semiclassic. On the other hand, it’s debut time for Robinson Chalapud and Duber Quintero, and also for Leonardo Duque, who fully recovered from the issues that forced him to forfeit in France, and is now ready to pin the race numbers on his new Colombia kit. Rounding out the team are Fabio Duarte, Carlos Julian Quintero, Juan Pablo Suarez, Esteban Chaves and Jarlinson Pantano, who will look to follow up after a solid fourth place in Tour Med’s final stage.
Sports Director Oscar Pellicioli expects another good display from his team: “Guys reported good feelings from France, and now got some race kilometres in their legs, but the debutants are raring to go too, and are very motivated. We know the route, and we feel athletes like Chaves and Pantano could perform well, but we got quite a number of options to choose from.”
