Colombia travels to Portugal to face Vuelta a Algarve
Following an encouraging campaign in France, at the Tour Mediterraneen, the season of Team Colombia’s Escarabajos continues with the Vuelta ao Algarve, Portoguese stage race schedule from February 14th to 17th. With a route featuring three undulated road stages, including an uphill finish, and a 34 km time trial to round out the programme, the race is very well suited to tune the early season condition.
Team Colombia selected a completely different line-up than Tour Mediterraneen’s, with Sports Directors Oliverio Rincon and Valerio Tebaldi at the helm, the latter showing confidence ahead of the challenge: “It’s the first race of the season for all those guys, and it will be useful to see where we are in terms of shape, but I think we are on the right path so far. The guys are raring to go, that is very good to see.”
“We will face a varied route: on the second day, an ondulated stage could suite punchy riders who can deal with climbs, like Jeffry Romero and Edwin Avila, while Darwin Atapuma will look for an early feedback on Alto do Malhao uphill finish,” Tebaldi stated.
Along with Atapuma, Avila and Romero, Marco Corti, Wilson Marentes, Dalivier Ospina, Michael Rodriguez and Juan Pablo Valencia will travel to Portugal on Wednesday.
