Colombia starts final training camp in Arco, Garda Trentino
The whole roster of Claudio Corti’s Team Colombia reached Arco, Garda Trentino, on Monday, January 28 to start their final training camp ahead of their season debut, set on February 6th in France, at the Tour Mediterraneen. The team’s 18 riders and the whole staff have welcomed the opportunity to resettle into an area they already visited in last year’s winter camp and at the start of 2012 Giro del Trentino. The Northern Italy region also recalls an historical moment for Claudio Corti’s outfit: in Trentino, on the Pass Pordoi, Darwin Atapuma clinched the first ever win for the team on April 20th, 2012.
The Escarabajos are raring to go, and clearly showed it over their first few days in Italy, putting some good kilometres into the legs despite the big climate gap compared to their home country. In addition, the riders put their experience in the area to good use, choosing to get off the team bus in advance and reach Arco on their Wilier Zero7 bikes.
The riders have reported back from Colombia in good fitness condition, as showed by the tests run by Team Doctor Massimiliano Mantovani last week, and the training camp will help them to finalize their tuning ahead of the competitive season. Yet, the concentration in Arco will be another chance to experience the unique chemistry the Team has already enjoyed in Zipaquirà, as well as to realize the official photo and video shooting in some very charming and peculiar locations.
On Wednesday, Team Colombia will open its life to some press guests, that will have the opportunity to get closer to the team’s riders and staff, and access their everyday’s backstage at 7 days to the season debut.
Finally, on Thursday January 31st, a very important and interesting test is in store for the Escarabajos: in the morning, the team will reach Mori to test Giro d’Italia stage 17 uphill time trial from Mori to Polsa (19 km). After reaching the top, the team will sit along with the staff, press and guests for a quick lunch to wrap up a very intense training camp.
